A useful swimming pool budget covers a finished, working pool and the work around it. A shell price alone will not tell you the cost of excavation, equipment, paving or a difficult site. Pools For Life prices new builds after a site assessment rather than publishing a universal price.
Start with the pool and property
Decide how you will use the pool, the approximate dimensions and the finish you prefer. Access for machinery, the distance materials must be carried, ground conditions and existing structures all affect the scope. A compact pool on a difficult site can involve more work than a larger pool with straightforward access.
Compare every part of the quotation
Look for excavation, spoil removal, shell construction, plumbing, interior finish, steps, mosaics and coping. Check the pump, filter and control equipment. Ask who handles electrical connections, surrounds, drainage, filling and commissioning. Any design or approval responsibilities should be identified clearly.
Separate essentials from optional upgrades
Heating, lighting, automation and upgraded paving can change the total. Ask for optional items to be priced separately so you can choose them without losing sight of the core construction scope. Consider future access for equipment replacement as well as the initial appearance.
Allow for uncertainty without guessing a percentage
Ask the builder to identify the site conditions that cannot be confirmed before excavation and explain how variations would be approved. Agree on a payment schedule and what happens if additional work is discovered. A written process is more useful than an unexplained contingency figure.
Include the ongoing costs
Budget for electricity, water, testing, cleaning products and maintenance. A cover, sensible equipment selection and a practical pool layout may reduce avoidable losses, but savings depend on how the pool is used. Ask for operating guidance at handover.
