Rain can carry debris into a pool and change its water balance. Green water often involves algae, but dissolved metals or circulation problems can produce similar symptoms. Testing first helps avoid adding products that do not address the cause.
Check the water and circulation
Review sanitiser, pH and other relevant balance readings using suitable tests. Check the water level, baskets, cleaner and filter operation. A pump or filtration fault can prevent treatment from working properly.
Remove accessible debris
Skim leaves and brush suitable surfaces. Empty baskets and service the filter according to its instructions. Avoid entering a pool when the water is too cloudy to see clearly or the condition is uncertain.
Treat according to test results
Use products suitable for your surface and equipment and follow their labels. Pool volume and product concentration matter, so there is no responsible universal shock dose. Never mix chemicals together or add incompatible products.
Filter, retest and review
Run circulation according to the treatment and equipment guidance, then retest. Check that the filter is functioning and clean it when required. Do not assume that clear-looking water alone means the pool is ready for swimming.
Avoid promising an overnight recovery
The cause, algae load, filter condition and weather affect the time needed. Persistent colour, poor flow or repeated algae may need a professional assessment rather than more of the same chemical.
